Angélique started playing classical guitar when she was 6. She initially wanted to learn the piano, but in her little French hometown, in Alsace, piano lessons were already saturated with students. So her mum suggested, rather smartly, that she should try guitar instead since the piano lessons weren't available that year (plus a piano costs a lot more money than a guitar hehe). The lessons were fun at the beginning, but quickly turned into that thing she didn't want to go to nor practice. She managed to stay with it until her 14th year after which she put her guitar away and didn't get back to it until later. When she started playing again, she moved completely away from classical pieces and started playing and singing songs from bands she loved. At that time Radiohead was high on her list along with Nirvana (of course) and some other French pop rock artists. This was when the guitar truly became her own, as well as a way to channel her feelings.

The transition between playing cover songs to starting writing her own happened during a transition point in her life (a small flat in Dresden) where she felt she was leaving a lot of things behind for something new, exciting and unknown. In a way she felt she had to put this past life into writing to process it once and for all, to be at peace with it and be able to look back on it with no regrets. Since she is not a writer and doesn't think her pre-adult life is worth a novel, she wrote songs - about her, people she knows, and things that happened that left a footprint in her soul.

Angélique commenca à jouer de la guitare classique à l'âge de 6 ans. Son rêve à l’époque était d’apprendre le piano, mais malheureusement dans son petit village en Alsace, les cours étaient déjà saturés d’élèves. Sa maman lui suggéra alors d’apprendre la guitare, ce qui était bien plus pratique pour tout le monde ! Les leçons prirent vite un goût amer et se transformèrent en corvée comme pour beaucoup d’enfants. Angélique y mit un frein et pendant un temps, la guitare prit la poussière au fond d'un placard. Quand elle apprivoisa à nouveau sa guitare, ce fut pour jouer et chanter les chansons de ses groupes de rock favoris ( Radiohead, Nirvana, et bien d’autres encore). C’est à ce moment-là qu’elle commenca à utiliser l’instrument comme un moyen d’expression .

La transition entre jouer des chansons d’artistes connus et composer ses propres chansons s’effectua dans un petit appartement vide à Dresden, en Allemagne, pendant une période de transition de sa vie durant laquelle elle se rendit compte qu'elle allait devoir laisser beaucoup de choses derrière elle et prendre un nouveau départ dans un pays inconnu. D’une certaine facon, il lui fallait mettre ses sentiments conflictuels par écrit pour dire au revoir au passé, bonjour au présent et à l'avenir, et surtout n’avoir aucun regret de quitter le vieux continent. Puisqu’elle n’est pas romancière et qu’elle ne juge certainement pas sa vie digne d’un roman, elle écrit des chansons sur elle-même, ses proches et les évènements qui ont marqués son âme.

Oh, and one last thing: for those who wonder about the title of her CD, it is a translated French expression: "les anges passent" which is generally used when a silence occurs during a conversation, an angel or angels are said to pass by. Angélique has a thing for angels and this expression seemed to embody the silence that occurred within her during the Dresden adventure that enabled her to hear, follow and create these songs, which are now out in the open.

Le titre de son CD “Angels go by” est une expression française traduite en anglais, "Un ange passe", et qui est souvent utilisée lorsqu’un silence interrompt une conversation. Cette expression pour elle symbolise le silence qui se fit dans son âme pendant ses aventures à Dresden et qui lui permit d’entendre, d’écrire et de jouer ses propres chansons qui sont maintenant tournées vers le monde extérieur.
